Registration Now Open for the Suicide Prevention Virtual Symposium

Join the Mississippi Department of Mental Health in Raising Awareness for Suicide Prevention Month

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to remember the lives lost to suicide, acknowledge those who experience suicidal thoughts, and recognize those who have been impacted by suicide. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness and share the message of hope.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2022, 49,476 Americans died by suicide and 417 were Mississippians. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth ages 10-14 and the third leading cause of death among those ages 15-24. In recognition of these facts and to raise awareness about prevention efforts happening across the state, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has proclaimed September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.  The virtual symposium is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The target audience includes advocates, social workers, educators, healthcare professionals, therapist, faith-based community, community leaders and regular Mississippians interested in preventing suicide. Continuing Education Units for Social Work and DMH credentials are available to registered symposium attendees at no charge.
