Mental Health First Aid Training Now Available – Sign Up Today

Identify. Understand. Respond.

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based, early-intervention course that teaches participants about mental health and substance use challenges. It is a skills-based training course that teaches participants to identify, understand and respond to these challenges – we generally know how to refer someone for help when they’re showing signs of a primary health challenge, but that’s not always the case when someone is displaying signs of a behavioral health issue.

The Mississippi Department of Mental Health is able to make Mental Health First Aid for Public Safety available to law enforcement and first responders at no cost. Public safety professionals encounter high levels of stress, trauma and critical incidents, which can take a toll on mental health. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Public Safety gives personnel the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and help connect them to the appropriate care. This training promotes open dialogue, reduces stigma and encourages public safety professionals to seek support when needed.
